The Police Sector Council (PSC) is a non-for-profit organization providing strategic research and practical guides/processes/tools focusing on increased efficiencies and effectiveness in the management of policing. We support information on HR issues and challenges, integration in HR planning and management, and alignment/networks to share solutions and improve workforce management “sector-wide.”
Our Mandate
“Connecting forces – securing futures” –to ensure Canadian policing organizations, partners and stakeholders understand common issues, and together implement innovative, practical solutions to HR planning and management challenges.
What’s in it for You
• a national repository of management approaches and tools
• an understanding of trends and issues
• opportunities to access research
• leverage projects and initiatives for effective HR planning and management
Our Goal
A nationally integrated “policing sector” building competency-based management solutions in four key areas:
• recruitment and selection
• training and education
• leadership development and succession management
• performance management
Facilitating sharing and networking; supporting the sector through information, knowledge and tools; and driving a national focus on efficiencies in planning and managing of HR resources.
What is a “Council”
The council is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors – senior leaders from police services/agencies, unions, police boards, training institutes, federal/provincial/municipal governments, and stakeholder associations. The Council is supported by a small staff.
What’s the “Sector” Approach
The policing community is often identified as a Canadian economic and workforce “sector” – with common issues and shared consequences of the change “drivers” affecting policing. It is a network of partners and stakeholders sharing a policing management mission, and integrating approaches to effective planning and management.
Functioning as a “sector” means leveraging best practices, driving efficiencies and economies and together building high performing, sustainable policing.
This initiative was funded by the Government of Canada’s Sector Council Program
